This guide covers the most common issues users encounter and how to resolve them.

Microphone and audio issues

Symptoms: Can’t record audio, microphone icon shows red X, “No microphone detected” errorSolutions:

Check browser permissions

  1. Look for microphone icon in browser address bar
  2. Click it and select Allow
  3. Refresh the page

Check system permissions

Mac: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone → Enable for your browserWindows: Settings → Privacy → Microphone → Allow apps to access microphone

Close other apps

Close apps that might be using your microphone (Zoom, Teams, Discord)

Try different browser

Chrome and Safari work best. Try switching if issues persist.
Symptoms: No audio output, Coral’s responses are text-onlySolutions:
  1. Check your device volume (not muted)
  2. Check browser isn’t muted (look for mute icon in tab)
  3. Try headphones to rule out speaker issues
  4. Check Coral’s voice settings in Customize → ensure voice is selected
  5. Refresh the page
Symptoms: Coral can’t understand you, transcription errors, echo during conversationSolutions:
  1. Use headphones with built-in microphone
  2. Find a quiet space (background noise affects quality)
  3. Speak clearly and at normal pace
  4. Don’t use speakerphone mode
  5. Check internet connection (poor connection = audio issues)

Login and account issues

Solutions:
  • Check your inbox for verification code
  • Check spam/junk folder
  • Verification code expires after 10 minutes — request new one
  • Make sure you’re using the correct email address
Possible causes:
  1. Not enrolled in class — Ask teacher for class link or code
  2. Wrong account — Logged in with different email than invited
  3. Expired invitation — Ask teacher to resend invite
  4. Organization restrictions — Contact your school admin
Solution: Log out completely, clear cache, log back in with correct account
Solution:
  1. Click your profile picture (top right)
  2. Select Switch organization from dropdown
  3. Choose the organization you want
If organization doesn’t appear, you may not be a member — check with admin.

Class and enrollment issues

Possible reasons:
  1. Not enrolled — Join the class first
  2. Not published — Teacher hasn’t published assignments yet
  3. Date restrictions — Assignment not available until specific date
  4. Wrong class — Check you’re in correct class
Solution: Refresh page, check with teacher about assignment availability
Symptoms: Completed assignment but teacher sees no submissionSolutions:
  1. Check if you actually clicked Submit button
  2. Look for email confirmation of submission
  3. Check if you’re in correct class (multiple sections)
  4. Wait 5-10 minutes and refresh (processing delay)
  5. Contact teacher with screenshot of your submission

Oral assignment issues

Normal behavior: Evaluation takes 2-10 minutes depending on conversation lengthIf stuck longer than 15 minutes:
  1. Refresh the page
  2. Check back in 30 minutes (high-traffic periods take longer)
  3. If still stuck after 1 hour, contact support with:
    • Assignment name
    • Date/time of submission
    • Your class name
Causes: Usually internet connection or browser issuesSolutions:
  1. Check internet connection (run speed test: speedtest.net)
  2. Switch to stronger WiFi or ethernet
  3. Close other bandwidth-heavy apps
  4. Try different browser (Chrome recommended)
  5. Disable browser extensions that might interfere
  6. Clear browser cache
For students: This is a content issue — let your teacher knowFor teachers:
  1. Review assignment questions for clarity
  2. Check if course materials are uploaded correctly
  3. Review Coral’s personality settings (Customize tab)
  4. Test the assignment yourself to verify behavior
Symptoms: Submit button grayed out or not workingSolutions:
  1. Make sure you completed all required questions
  2. Wait for current question to finish processing
  3. Check if conversation actually ended (look for “Conversation complete” message)
  4. Try refreshing page (your progress should be saved)
  5. Clear cache and try again

Canvas integration issues

Solutions:

Check navigation

Settings → Navigation → Make sure Coraltalk is in visible tools

Check enrollment

Confirm you’re enrolled in the Canvas course

Clear cache

Clear Canvas cache and cookies, then log back in

Try direct login

Log into coraltalk.com directly to see if it’s an LTI issue
For teachers: Contact IT or support@coraltalk.com to verify LTI configuration
Check:
  1. Assignment was created with Canvas link enabled (in Coraltalk)
  2. Canvas gradebook column exists
  3. Grade not hidden in Coraltalk settings
  4. Wait 5-10 minutes for sync delay
For teachers: Try manually syncing from Coraltalk assignment settingsSee Canvas integration guide for details
Cause: Roster sync issue or multiple organizationsSolution:
  1. Launch Coraltalk from Canvas (not direct coraltalk.com)
  2. Check if student is in correct organization
  3. Teacher should verify LTI setup and roster sync settings

Browser and performance issues

Solutions:
  1. Close unnecessary browser tabs
  2. Clear browser cache and cookies
  3. Disable browser extensions temporarily
  4. Check internet speed (need minimum 5 Mbps)
  5. Update browser to latest version
  6. Try incognito/private mode
Symptoms: Can’t watch recorded oral assignment submissionsSolutions:
  1. Update browser to latest version
  2. Enable JavaScript in browser settings
  3. Clear cache
  4. Try different browser
  5. Check if video is still processing (wait 5-10 minutes after submission)
Coraltalk is web-based and works best on:
  • Desktop/laptop browsers (recommended)
  • iPad or larger tablets
  • Mobile browsers (limited features)
For best experience, use desktop Chrome, Safari, or Edge.

Teacher-specific issues

Possible causes:
  1. Usage limit reached — Check sidebar for usage alerts
  2. Subscription expired — Go to Billing in org settings
  3. Legacy class — Old classes may need migration
  4. Permissions — Contact org admin if you’re not class owner
Solutions:
  1. Have students re-join with class link
  2. Check if students are in different section/class
  3. For Canvas: verify roster sync is enabled
  4. Wait 10 minutes for enrollment to process
  5. Check organization settings for enrollment restrictions
File requirements:
  • Accepted formats: PDF, DOCX, TXT, PPTX
  • Maximum file size: 50MB per file
  • Files must not be password-protected
If upload fails:
  1. Try smaller file (compress large PDFs)
  2. Convert to PDF if using other format
  3. Check file isn’t corrupted (open it locally first)
  4. Try different browser
